Spyker 12/16-HP DOUBLE PHÆTON | 1905

This particular Spyker co-starred in the famous 1953 movie “Genevieve” with the 1904 Darracq which can also been seen in this museum. The years 1904 and 1905 were successful for the Spyker automobiles where they excelled in various races and rallies, winning two gold medals in the Filey Sands Races and one gold and two silver medals in the Brighton Speed Trials. But what distinguished the 1905 Spyker on the loose-surfaced roads of the day, where passing cars raised great clouds of dust, was the use of a curved sheet-steel undertray that smoothed the air currents beneath the car. This construction not only protected the occupants from dirt but also kept those troublesome dust clouds down. And in the Dunstable and Luton Dust Trials of July 1905, the “the Dustless Spyker” duly carried off the first prize.
